About The Series

We’ve set the schedule for the 2016 to 2017 season. We have a new venue, Alewife, a cool bar/restaurant in Long Island City, and a new weeknight series.

October 12: Ghost Stories
December 14: What I Really Want for Christmas
February 8
April 12
June 14
Readings will be hosted upstairs at Alewife, 5-14 51st Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101.

This is not like any other series. We are multi-genre, multi-cultural, multi-purpose.

The Oh, Bernice! reading series was started by the Queens-based writing collective of the same name, to give their words life outside the workshop, and to provide a platform to showcase the work of other area writers. We are committed to reflecting the diversity of our locality. Each month is curated by a different Bernician and features at least one reader from Oh, Bernice. We then bring in friends, heroes, strangers with talent, etc. to read alongside us, to give our work new context and to give ourselves new challenges to rise to. You’ll see our faces regularly but never hear the same reading twice. We’ve had the privilege of reading with Guggenheim Fellows and True Crime writers, Obie Award nominees and former ACT UP activists, Grammy Award Winners and the Queens Poet Laureate. And we’ve become better for it.

Interested in reading with us?  Send us an email at bernicesubmissions [at] gmail [dot] com with a little about yourself and 3-8 pages of writing (fiction, poetry, etc.) for us to consider. We prefer you send us the actual text[s] you would like to present at the reading. We’re currently looking for readers for the 2016-2017 season—all are welcome to submit (both established and emerging authors) but space is limited.
