Harold Schechter was born on August 27, 1906 in La Crosse, WI. He gathered widespread notoriety after authorities discovered he had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and — wait, wait, I’m sorry. That’s not Harold’s bio. That’s Ed Gein’s bio. My mistake. Harold, unlike Ed Gein, is NOT a serial killer, but an upstanding citizen who’s reading tomorrow at Cafe Marlene!
Harold Schechter is a professor of American literature and culture at Queens College, CUNY. He is widely known for both fiction and true-crime writing, including Psycho USA: Famous American Killers You Never Heard Of, The Serial Killer Files, and The Whole Death Catalog. He also co-edited the anthology Killer Verse: Poems of Murder and Mayhem. He lives in Brooklyn and Mattituck, Long Island, with his wife, the poet Kimiko Hahn.
